LAVINIA SHIKONGO

General Manager

Lavinia has over 26 years of work experience in public and development management and has led programs on public health; women and children's rights; and poverty eradication. She is currently the General Manager for IntraHealth Namibia responsible for the overall leadership of the organisation including managing programs on HIV; Human Resources for Health; and health information system strengthening. She worked for the United Nations in Namibia for over 14 years in different capacities including as Assistant Resident Representative for UNDP; Assistant Representative for UNFPA; Child Protection Officer, and Communication/Advocacy Officer for UNICEF. She also served as the Country Director for the Society for Family Health, a Namibian public health NGO and member of the Population Services International (PSI) Network, from July 2010 to August 2015.

Between September 2015 and September 2018, Lavinia was part of the Health Information Systems Programme (HISP) team supporting the implementation of a CDC supported project aimed at strengthening surveillance systems in 7 African and Asian countries. She also served as a consultant for organisations such as UNICEF Ghana, UNAIDS, Grant Management Solutions (under Global Fund), PEPFAR, Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare and others. She coordinated Namibia’s preparation for the Beijing Conference in the mid-90s; and as a student in the USA, she had short term employment with various NGOs focusing mainly on women’s rights.

Lavinia has strong skills and knowledge of program management, and a good track record of building strategic alliances with government, civil society and donors. Over the years she has been able to build strong teams; and has extensive experience working in multi-cultural environments.
